ياسمينة Yasmina , 2019
Video/ Performance 52min and 32s
In this performance/video, a Ma'allem (craftsman) endeavors to embroider a delicate flower named Yasmina originally from Tunisian Jews onto a sewing pattern. Despite the simplicity of the motif, the Ma'allem is having difficulty navigating the assignment. Notably, embroidery, traditionally associated with women, adds a layer of complexity to the narrative. The work conveys the beauty of the struggle to perfect a technique that is traditionally performed by women, as well as the essence of dedication and endurance through every stitch.
